Personal statement

My name is Keeley Barnaby and I am a year twelve student at Leyton Sixth Form College. I am currently studying BTEC Ninety Credit Diploma in creative media production and BTEC Level three certificate in photography, this is my first year in both courses. After college I am aiming to go to university to study Journalism and photography, the two courses I am currently attending are aiding me to achieve my goal. As well as taking enrichment classes I hope to improve my work ethic and a student and as an adult in the working society.

Doing this course has given me a lot of opportunities and achievements. An example is in photography we had an exhibition to display all the work that we have done within the first year. Media has also helped me because I have learned what the media industry is like and how hard you have to work in order to achieve, also pitching personal ideas to teachers and in front of my class has given me confidence with my work and talking to a big audience. I also attend an enrichment Tap class which has helped me gain more confidence and step out of my comfort zone, doing this has given me the chance to perform in a showcase.

Taking my media course has given me an opportunity to work with Rooftop Film Club and learn what it is like to work with an independent company that relates to my course and also helps me become confident, independent and hard working. Also I had the chance to work with a media production company called Rumpus media. When I was working with them I was treated as one of their colleges and I was given assignments that related to the current project that they were working on, this had given me a taste of what it would be like to work for such a famous company and I had learned a lot more that would I would expect to learn in a class room. Over all these experiences has boosted my confidence, helped me expand my options and aided me in understanding the media sectors and the hard work that is needed in achieving in the working world.

Skills and qualities that I have gained during the years of my education are being able to lead a team when working on a group assignment and the being able to take charge if there is a problem that has occurred. I have learned a lot about formatting and layout for media related work and my skills with the software we use has improved more efficiently. Being a photography student has also taught me a lot, when first started the course I knew nothing about photography and this whole year has taught me a lot about the technical side of photography and I have improved so much compared to when I first started.

The degrees I think I want to study are journalism and creative writing as it will show my full potential as a writer in  this sector as well as improve my writing skills enough to become a journalist in the near future. Another course I would like to get a degree in is photography because it links well with journalism and because I enjoy both of them I feel I will achieve greatly in the courses I feel I will work hard in. These courses will help me greatly in the future such as helping me get a job in journalism or for a creative writing company and even as an independent writer working and aiding other companies. The same is said for the photography degree I am aiming to get, it will broaden my options to work with famous magazine or journalistic companies and again work as an independent photographer aiding later companies whether it is for a fashion company or for a small business. I am aiming to work hard and achieve my goals in order to set my future out and I will stick to these goals that I have set.
